EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of a series, start here.

Need to decide what data points we care about with stars and planets. Stars are fairly easy, as they mainly just have some physical attributes and a name (or catalog number).

Right now there are only stars, but we should add some more exotic things, like:

  1. Black Holes
  2. White Holes? Is that a real thing?
  3. Rogue Planets (There are more of these than stars?)
  4. Nebulae/Dust clouds
  5. Supernova remnants

Planets have a lot more attributes to worry about. Here’s a short list:

  1. Name
  2. Size
    1. Radius
    2. Mass
    3. Composition (Rocky/Gaseous)
  3. Atmosphere
    1. Composition
    2. Density
  4. Temperature
    1. Average
    2. Equatorial
    3. Polar
  5. Geology (Rocky Planets)
    1. Plate Tectonics
    2. Volcanic Activity
  6. Life
    1. Flora
    2. Fauna
    3. Level of advancement

That last one is obviously a little geocentric. I may need to rethink that. I’m also consciously not worrying about intelligent life yet, as that’s a whole different ball of wax.
